The aim for this project was to take on two iconic shoes, the clog, and sneaker, and with a sustainable approach try to re-design and combine.
Using deadstock wooden clog soles, I re-shaped and altered the classic round clog and elongating it into a point. Using uppers from Nike factory samples, I then fitted them onto the pointed clog. Through this created a fun and sustainable design, re-using discarded materials, and ultimately creating a shoe which embodies two classic and iconic designs, that never goes out of style – whilst catering to modern and contemporary trends seen in present day.

This project is an excellent example of sustainability and upcycling in footwear design. The idea of reusing uppers and allowing for future modifications is both practical and forward-thinking. Combining the sneaker with a clog creates an unexpected yet successful contrast that makes the final product truly stand out. I particularly appreciate the creative use of the tongue in the back part of the design, which adds to its uniqueness. This project exemplifies how accessible upcycling can be, transforming discarded materials into something new and trendy. It’s a great reminder that design can come to life quickly by working with what’s readily available.

It’s a tough decision, but I’ll give the edge to this entry. It aligns well with some of the bold shapes Balenciaga is known for, yet the choice of materials brings a refreshing sense of “”newness”” that I really appreciate.
