This project explores the integration of biotechnology into sports footwear and speculates on the transformative potential of biotechnological advancements. Through an artistic inquiry into the evolution of the human body, it materialises a possible consequence of the growing power to control our biological conditions.

Individuals temporarily enhance their physiology to meet specific needs and desires. The wearer’s own biomaterials are processed through advanced tissue engineering, redefining long-distance running by creating a bioengineered bond between footwear and feet.

Wolfgang Laimer is an interdisciplinary designer exploring the intersections of design, ecology, and philosophy. His work focuses on innovative footwear, multisensory product development, and materials research. Beyond practical problem-solving through design, he emphasizes the potential of creative research to generate knowledge and address complex issues. By bridging practical and conceptual realms, his approach invites reflection on the relationship between human augmentation, material culture, and the broader implications of design in shaping experience, and environmental interactions.
